Advocacy and Student Support Officer

ADEC currently has a vacancy for a part-time (3 days per week) Advocacy and Student Support Officer based at ADEC’s Preston Office located at 175 Plenty Road Preston.

The Advocacy and Student Support Officer is to work one-on-one with people from ethnic backgrounds with a disability and/or their carers to ensure and to facilitate access to services, to provide social work and community services oversight and support to students who are completing work placements at ADEC.

The Advocacy and Student Support Officer may be involved with participants in a case management role.  

The role:-

  • Assist NDIS and My Aged Care participants by coordinating the provision of supports they require to achieve their goals.
  • Support a program of capacity-building and empowerment of persons with disability to advocate on their own behalf.
  • Participate in relevant networks.
  • Provide secondary consultations to service providers who are seeking assistance in working with people from ethnic backgrounds.
    • Interview & screen candidates for student work placements, determine their suitability & allocate them to ADEC programs.
  • Coordinate with ADEC program managers and coordinators for the ongoing supervision of all students to ensure the objectives of the work placement are met.
  • Participate as required in the delivery of an ADEC information service through briefings and presentations.
  • Assist the Advocacy Support team Leader to prepare for compliance audits.
  • Support volunteers assisting ADEC.

 

Selection Criteria:-

  • Cert IV or higher qualification in Social Work, Case Management or equivalent that enables supervision of Social Work students.
  • Ability to plan a program of support with participants and to deliver it.
  • Ability to accurately collect statistics, record data, and maintain records
  • Excellent coordination and time management skills.
  • Current Victoria driver’s licence.
  • Current Police and Working with Children Checks

 

Desirable:-

  • Previous experience of working with people with a disability and carers, from ethnic communities.
  • Experience in program implementation.
  • Experience in project design and delivery.
