Stronger Ethnic Communities

This project involved building the capacity of people with disabilities and carers from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds through a platform of training workshops and mentoring programs.

Achievements

  • Training was delivered to community members from the Chinese, Arabic, Karen and African communities.
  • A total of 50 community members with disabilities, families and carers accessed training workshops designed to strengthen their knowledge of Human Rights in Victoria and their knowledge and skills in effective Self-Advocacy.
  • 14 representatives from CALD communities completed detailed mentoring programs that explored Human Rights, Self-Advocacy, the NDIS, Art Therapy and Self-Care.
  • Feedback reported a measurable increase in participants’ understanding of their rights and increased skills and confidence in speaking up for themselves or other.

Stronger Ethnic Communities for Stronger Victoria Videos produced from the project continue to facilitate knowledge and confidence through people sharing their stories and experiences. These videos feature people from Arabic, Chinese, Karen and African communities and can be viewed here.
